Hi Walrus
As Robbie says, looks like you're good to go with that kit and those mics for practice / gigging.
If you were wanting to do some recording I might suggest adding a condenser mic for the guitar - I get reasonably good results with a modest AKG P170 picked up for forty quid on ebay.

I've never played a Takamine, walrus - but that looks very, very smart indeed. I look forward to hearing your impressions of it as you bond. Peter

This is tough, and some great suggestions so far, but here's my thoughts Ben - based on your musical ambiance and your wide vocal range:
Boyzone - When you say nothing at all Something by Eric Bibb - Ribbons and Bows maybe? Trust your Cape as a bit of fun? Clapton - Holy Mother S&G - Sound of Silence Something from Christie Moore's setlist / style - The Contender / Motherland? Sting - Fields of Gold maybe as per Eva C Knopfler - something recent, like Rivertown Some blues - Goin' Down Slow Dylan - Make you Feel my Love A bit of Rag (!!!) - Mr Crump? And my two wildcards are - Lying in the arms of Mary by Sutherland Brothers & Quiver, and Make me Smile - Cockney Rebel
I can play (murder) some of these - you'd do them justice!
Hope this isn't too far off beam...

Kyser KDS500W Instrument Polish WipesThe pot of these that I referred to in the post above just arrived yesterday. As I mentioned, I got them because as a life-long "huuurrrrrrr" protagonist I noticed a haze building up on the top of my Martin at the top of the lower bout where my arm touches it. The packaging is a bit of a faff - and a tad irritating if, like me, you find packaging generally to be a life shortening experience. The product is a perforated roll of soaked wipes - first time around you need to take the whole top off the pot, fish out the middle one, feed it through the thingy and put the top back on. Unnecessary, slightly messy palava - plus the top is a very loose fit - I'm going to put some tape around where it joins the pot to make sure they don't dry out. Do they work? Yes - to a pretty good degree - the guitar looks lovely (and for those secret guitar sniffers amongst you, it smells very nice too). Has all of the haze gone - no - but it's much reduced and I decided not to go at it too much but to do a little more in a few weeks. The wipes are well loaded with polish and it doesn't evaporate quickly (like those kitchen worktop wipes) so 1 wipe out of the pot will easily do 2 maybe 3 guitars even putting it down for a bit while you buff with a clean dry cloth between applications. They're intended for polished tops but one guitar I have has a rosewood bridge that appears a little dry so I put some on that and it looks pretty good. Are they worth it? Yep - I think so - they seem to have gone up in price to about a tenner now but I nabbed these at £5.99 on amazon as I baulked at the price of the Martin branded ones - these come recommended by the Faith / Eggle chaps. If one wipe does 3 guitars and you buff your fleet once a month or so, they should keep you pleasantly shiny and smelly for a couple of years, even assuming the last few dry up a bit. Obviously these economics don't apply to Martin who will need to look at bulk purchase options. Peter

Guys, guys, get with it.
The A440 has been closed for bridge repair works, and while the A442 is a pretty poor diversion. It will get you to Telford, which as we know, is never a good thing.

I do find it endearing, Robbie, the way you seem to be able to plonk yourself down anywhere - bottom of the stairs, cross-legged on the floor, laid back on a sofa, reclining atop the microwave, hanging upside down in up a tree, whatever - like the thought just suddenly crossed your mind there and then to stop whatever you were doing and, guitar in hand, play something sublime.
Lower order primeval species like me need to spend a while going through long checklists of all the excuses for our guitar playing being crap - the chair's too high, there's a hair up my left nostril that's tickling a bit, fingernails could do with a trim, where's me snark?, that callous is about to ping off, sun's reflecting off the pickguard.....
No idea how you do it - but I'm very glad you do!
I look forward to hearing the musical result of some interesting "new positions" with your old friend from Brook.

Robbie - if your mate Bill is struggling with any other guitars that he doesn't want to play, I'd be happy to make a personal sacrifice to help relieve the problem.

Looks splendid Martin!
I have two electrics that I love looking at but never play these days a nice Godin and a lovely Ibanez artcore archtop. One day I'll have a Fender strat or tele - because obviously, like banjos, every home should have one.
BUT - I do wish they'd do something better than the plastic offerings with the tone and vol knobs - however iconic they might be they don't do justice to the legend in my mind.

Of course, nice people are only part of the picture when it comes to the kind of customer relationship experience we all prefer these days.
"Thank you for calling Brook Guitars, your call is important to us, though we have no need to record it for training purposes. Please press 1 for Okement.......273 for Bovey with Red Gum back and sides. ......We're sorry, due to an unexpectedly high passing-deer volume, both of our agents are unavailable right now. Goodbye."
Just an idea. Perhaps someone other than me could suggest it to Simon and Andy?

Thanks John - I enjoyed that - always an idyllic sense of calm and satisfaction when reading about the chaps at Brook.

I'm a certified 3rd Dan in both unfinished tune departments (other people's, and my own compositions) though in both cases, mine are a few grades below the level of material you chaps tackle!
I have found myself leaning on technology a little bit on both counts recently - i find an ipad really handy for grabbing and saving a fragment of a musical idea that you might develop somewhere else later on (and maybe even learn to play it decently with a bit of practice!) and a looper pedal is a great way for practicing the fiddly bits (in my case usually a bit of simple guitar solo) over a rudimentary backing track.
But yes, John, I have a large box file of tab I've printed of stuff I aspired to play, but then parked for another day.
