Have caught this a couple of times on tv Leo, it really enjoyed it. Certainly gave me a different or should i say better respect for the talent of George Formby.

I caught it a while back and was taken back by the character presented. I never knew anything about Formby's persona regarding his anti apartheid actions. He was very popular amongst Black South Africans who weren't having the best of times and really risked a lot to play for them. It's strange to think the jovial music of Formby had such a political impact in 20th Century history.
It's difficult to not have a huge amount of respect for Formby.

Indeed ... the anti-apartheid stuff about him and his Mrs was new to me, also. Astounding.

It's an interesting programme and the money his father was earning is incredible I know! I'd always assumed he was a working class lad made good ... far from it!

A bit weird being your Dad's own home-grown Tribute Band though!! Ultimately, Keith, isn't that true of all of us? <glances meaningfully into camera whilst puffing on pipe... Realises hot tobacco has fallen onto cardigan, squeals, stands up to brush it off, knocks over guitar leaning against coffee table, cries... Ruins moment>

Keith I am not sure. Some are the antithesis of tributes... Metaphysics aside, the programme was absolutely fascinating. The respect and enthusiasm with which Frank Skinner treated his aubject does him great credit. Brian
