Hi,
Had the pleasure of seeing the incredible Ric Sanders for the second time this year on Wednesday night. This gig was organised at short notice by Warthog promotions (a local set of people who organise a fantastic range of acoustic/folk based around Lowdham Village in Notts). The gig was to celebrate the reopening of a local pub which hosts their monthly smaller gigs and Ric agreed to do the honours with only about 4 week's notice. he was accompanied by the equally amazing Vo Fletcher but the 3rd member of the usual Trio was unable to come.
We had a fantastic night with a sold out audience. Ric of course is a veteran of Fairport and has been their main fiddle player for over 30m years. His own trio play a mix of blues, traditional folk, a bit of skiffle and a smattering of popular songs influenced by these genres. If you ever get the chance to see them you must do so; fantastic musicians, great fun and always give 110%. here's an example of what they do; the video cover quite a lot of the variety of numbers they do and also names some of the instruments Vo is using. Ric and Vo have been playing together since they were at school and it shows.

Just put it into context Ged; these are people who have made a career out of music whereas for most of us we earned a living for 40+ years doing something else. Oh, and there's something called talent involved as well. What I find a bit sad is that people with this amazing capability are playing before audiences sometimes of barely 100 and their musicality and entertainment value should have them filling much bigger venues. The upside is of course that we get to see them in a much more personal environment; in the case of last Wednesday, about 5 yards away! Keep playing your music as its pretty good. Still waiting to hear 'There was an Old Woman' again which was brilliant. FFJ
