Selling them all for charity. In 2002 he gave the proceeds of nearly £4m from the sale of his house to a homeless charity also, but I guess he can afford it!

I don't know how well off he is, but I'm pretty sure he's not in Bill Gates/ Jeff Bezos territory, so all credit to him really. Although I guess it must be hard to get round to playing them all when you have so many, and his wife probably wants the dining room back. I know mine does... A lot of the twitter/facebook chatter has interpreted the sale to mean he's definitely given up touring for good, although I suspect they overlook the fact that if you're David Gilmour and you phone up the Fender custom shop to say 'I'm planning a tour' your needs will be covered pretty swiftly.

Compared with that Trump guitar someone posted earlier in the week it looks good value To be fair if I had $150000 sitting under a bed I'd be tempted for a punt on #0001, just for the sake of owning such a historic guitar.* *unless my wife is reading this, in which case I'd definitely pay off the mortgage and build a garden room.
