This has become my favourite gig of the year. I know some on here have there reservations about aspects of these gigs but what’s not to love about hugely talented musicians playing with verve and skill? The usual house band but without Danny Thompson on bass this year. He’s not well and his substitute was Daniel Kimbro- an outstanding bassist but......... he’s not Danny Thompson. Some fabulous sets of tunes from the band and we all bloody loved it! Guest artistes were Paul McKenna from Glasgow, Molly Tuttle who showed some great chops on the guitar but whose performance didn’t really warm up until the second half when she closed the show. This lassie can play the geetar! Tim O’Brien gave his usual accomplished performance. A fine guitarist and mandolinist as well as no bad on the fiddle although he was up against John McCusker and Aly Bain. Cara Dillon continues to improve. I have only warmed to her over the past year but she gave a delightful performance of her songs. Things were going just fine and everyone was relaxing into the evening when Gretchen Peters came on and kicked off with On a Bus to St Cloud. Well that was me ruined. Sitting in floods of tears while she gave the performance of the night. Not sure what happened after that. Great Night! I’ll be back next year.

Off to see them soon. There's always a Gretchen Peters moment.
