Now it has been said, why indeed buy a resonator? Horrible things that just clunk ... Ahem... Clunking fist? Banging a galvanised bin would have been cheaper ;-)

Riverman and andyhowell you both know that resonators were very useful when a difference of opinion arose! Roll on HB10

Reso's have a distinct advantage when plaing guitar conkers....

Riverman and andyhowell you both know that resonators were very useful when a difference of opinion arose! Roll on HB10 Indeed. Much as I admire the undoubted luthiery skills of the estimable Mr Lucas, in a direct physical confrontation over a matter of honour such as this there’s little doubt that several kilos of steel National will prevail over spruce and wenge...

Lets just say I'm not a big reso fan myself. Having said that I think the reso's possible 'finest hour' is a certain Mr Knopfler on 'Romeo and Juliet'

By the the duct tape holding “Leadbessie” together is a fresh addition for this UK tour The last lot wore out. BUT the resonator just keeps going.

I know Resos. Nothing sounds as good as a National Resophonic.
They are often on sale on the 'bay. They often need neck resets.
There are wooden body resos (I have an Estralita - which is great. I had to have the neck done.
Metal resos are either steel bodied which is loud and harsh, or bell brass which is an runder nicer sound and really heavy! (I used to have a Style "O" Deluxe which was divine but made my back ache.
They now make "NRP" which are thinner bodies.
Mando Bob is currently having my tech ("my tech" - hehe - like I'm a star) resetting the neck then he'll be selling it. it is a bell brass with a antiqued finish - very nice.
BTW - the action on a reso need NOT be higher tan a normally set guitar - the skill is in managing the lightest possible bottleneck/slide pressure on the string, ad putting the lower in with your picking hand.
Also don't get a light bottle neck it needs mass! glass or brass is your choice. Diamondbottlenecks make great stuff and are VERY helpful.
I use a Blue diamond.
