Interesting, but not sure I get it really!
Wouldn't mind spending 3 years farting about doing a PhD on it though...

I think its a good proof of concept. What he should do now is perhaps add more strings like a harp, and, this is the inventive part, do away with the frets so that each string is tuned to a single note. That would provide a really versatile instrument that could perhaps span several octaves. With well designed hammers it could play both quietly and loudly.
In fact I might patent the idea - so don’t any of you think of stealing it! I shall call it the Forte-Piano to acknowledge its dynamic range.
This time next year I’ll be a millionaire!

With well designed hammers it could play both quietly and loudly. When he changed and started to play the strings with his fingers it highlighted the need for this concept to have very well designed hammers. Otherwise there's the danger of moving into harpsichord territory and we all know what Sir Thomas Beecham had to say about that sound! Mark
