Hello everyone,
I hope you'll enjoy my latest video, it's a chat with Colorado-based jazz fingerstyle guitarist Sean McGowan who is one of my favourite players and has been a real source of info as I explore other textures for fingerstyle playing.
All the best
Michael

Another interesting interview and some stunning guitars. That Mirabella Crossfire looks amazing. Thanks for posting here.

Every so often I toy with the idea of buying myself an archtop. Ive been dabbling in jazz recently, trying to learn some very simple standards and Cole Porter type songs - mainly using the excellent and hugely enjoyable to listen to Fred Sokolow instruction DVDs.
There are two guitars made by The Loar that are particularly tempting - both P90 single pickup, both a reasonable size nut width, just shy of 1.75". The only other archtop at an affordable price (which from me means less than £600) is a Gretsch, I forget the particular model name. Those are literally the only archtops (or semi acoustics of any kind) I've seen that have a wider spacing at a price I can afford. I'm surprised, I'd have thought jazz players would want wider string spacing in general.

Matt an inexpensive option might be an The now discontinued acoustic Godin 5th Ave. OK it's not a true jazz guitar but I'm really happy with mine l string it with Thomastik flats and it's a perfect late night guitar ( loads of tone even at low volume and squeak free!) if I want volume I stuck a Kent Armstrong pickup on the end of the neck with thumb wheel controls under the pickguard, I did make a new pickguard out of material more rigid than the flimsy effort that was the original. But without the mods I'm sure you can find a secondhand acoustic for around £300

Annoyingly one's just sold on Reverb for £299. Another one on there for £399. I think I will force myself to wait until I can at least play one jazz standard through all the way without screwing up. I'm nearly there on 'Fly me to the moon'. Really I should force myself to wait until I have a whole set of 10 songs. Bit of self-denial might be motivating. I was hoping Boris Johnson was going to urge all UK businesses to order staff to work from home in the COBRA announcement this afternoon (which would have meant much more guitar time). No such luck.

Matt Milton I've got a pristine 2002 Epiphone Emperor Regent that I would sell. But it's 1.68 nut width which I guess is too narrow for you. I want about 500 quid for it which includes a Gator hard case. I haven't played it since last September when I bought the fantastic archtop Francis Milsom made, but it's not taking up too much space, so I'm not actively selling it.
