Decided to connect my Zoom H2 directly to my computer (2011 Mac Mini 16GB RAM) and am getting an odd "Vibrato" effect. Any idea what could be causing it? I know about the clipping That's easily rectified. soundcloud.com/onechirdtrick/test-sample

Is your mobile phone anywhere near the scene of activities?

It may be vibration from your computer's fans, depending on where the mic is positioned. Until I found a set up that worked for me (no point in saying what PCs and mics I used) I resorted to arranging cushions from the sofa as baffles.

I'm begining to think the same Got better results with Garageband (which I'd forgotten about) so it looks like a problem with Audacity. But I can't get a decent level from GarageBand. The level control is greyed out!

I’ve used my H6 and an interface on a number of occasions but never the H2. I’ll have a go this week.
I normally follow lavaman ‘s advice and use an SE card.
I’d also increase the buffer size etc.
The only other thing worth trying is a different or better USB cable - decently screened cables are quite cheap now.

Thanks - I'm sorted now I think. No need to dust off your H2 on my account. Seems like it was a problem with Audacity as Garageband is working fine.

And updating to the latest version of Audacity sorted it! Just need to be able to play well enough to make it worth recording

That's great. I've never had any prob with Zoom H2 or H2n direct into computer - always worked smoothly and easily for me - prob just luck! gave up on the SD card route ages ago - I make too many mistakes and it's easier to sort out/delete as I go when I'm straight into my prehistoric Cakewalk software. Always worth trying all possible ways though as it is obvious that dfferent things work better for different people innit?
