If it's wonky, I'm sure that's how Mr Bucknell intended it.

It's an Octavius model, a posh spruce and rosewood one - less common than the cedar/mahogany ones. The Octavius mandolin was replaced by the Touchstone a few years ago. From the label this one predates the move to Cumbria and so would be mid 1990s ish at the latest.
Not sure what you mean by "wonky" though Robbie. It is certainly oval (intentionally), and the picture of the rosette alone is taken at such an angle that it appears almost asymmetrically oval. The full face picture shows it to be concentric (con-ovalic?!) with the soundhole.
Am I missing something?

Definitely not wonky, the last pic is from the side not straight on and cameras do weird things with perspective and curves, particularly compound curves - also straight lines (strings) across circles or ellipses can often create an optical illusion as the eye and brain struggles to cope with the conflicting geometry.

Lovely clear evening - off to sit in the garden with my Brook and a cup of tea - it's been a long day ;-)

Its just that the close up picture of the rosette has a kind of 'hand drawn' look to it. I know its supposed to be oval, but even given that it looks decidedly, well...off! Maybe it is just the perspective playing tricks on me. Not seen one like this before.

definitely looks odd to me, Robbie... not saying it's not genuine, just that it looks a wee bit amateurish...
