I really like what I've seen of them on Youtube, look and sound, as it goes. I would most likely have bought one, back when I was still in the market for guitars.

It's certainly no looker, IMO but it could be useful in a rock band.

Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. They will sell shedloads of these.

Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. They will sell shedloads of these. I'm not sure they will. I can see these being heavily discounted next year. As an acoustic it sounded horrid on video. For the money they are selling these at just buy a nice second hand Tele and get a nice acoustic. I hate it. Make it go away. (o: Naughty Fender. Smack smack.

I reckon I would hate it as well but I bet this starts cropping up at open mic nights all over the place!

The 'burst one is probably the ugliest (not sunbursts in general but that one on that guitar), the others not so bad. But give me 335 in cherry red over that I think.

Must admit I don't really give a flying flour truck what an instrument looks like if it plays well, and would never waste money buying one for a pretty grain, stain or knobbly headstock. I like the prosaic look of this one because it just says what it is, a Tele made of good materials that will double as an acoustic if need be. That's a working guitar, that is.
I don't own any T shirts that don't have The Grateful Dead, The Beatles, XTC or Assassin's Creed on them, mind. I do like to look good myself.

I'm in the pugly camp and I do love a Telecaster. Having said that, my brother thinks they're rather fetching which sheds some light on the nature or nurture argument... I've always suspected he could be a serial killer and this is definitive proof

My dad used to say tha don’t look at mantelpiece whilst tha’s poking’t fire. However, you might have put your beer on the mantelpiece so have to look at it to retrieve said beverage.

No idea how they sound in real life, but I can't imagine it's better than a Godin A series

Glad to hear someone else thought this as well. When I saw them I just thought 'yuck'. Not impressed by the sound either. There are semi-hollowbodies made by Danelectro and even the super cheapo Harley Benton (Thomann) and Hartwood (Gear4Music) brands that sound better in my opinion.

There are semi-hollowbodies made by Danelectro and even the super cheapo Harley Benton (Thomann) and Hartwood (Gear4Music) brands that sound better in my opinion. They're not for what hollow bodies do though. My Washburn J600 is a jazz guitar which can display a bit of poke, but never quite enough without electrickery. That instrument is a full-on Tele from the Tele birthing pool, which obviates the necessity to fiddle with wired-up or microphoned acoustics on stage or in the orchestra pit, even allowing you to switch mid-number. I would have used one during my working musician days, and I can easily imagine the uses someone like Don Rich or Danny Gatton would put them to. As for the acoustic sound, in my experience your individual touch and tone come out whichever instrument you play (the J600 played acoustically sounds like a slightly repressed me) and the subtleties evinced by the wooden boxes come from those parts of music which trees and luthiers are responsible for. Dedicated acoustic instruments have their place on stage and in the studio, just not necessarily the same place as this particular Fender. And under it all it looks like a well built Tele. Nothing wrong with a Tele shape. SGs or SJ200s now...Yuk.

Billy Strings doing a sort of tour of performances on Salt Creek on the instrument. You can pick up shades of all sorts of flatpickers in this vid: Doc, Clarence, Sutton, Rice, Blake, Orrin Star (crosspicking on the 7th fret G and 6th fret F) - there are probably more I didn't pic up.

Should have said that it was the Strat version of the instrument above.
