I listened to this last week. If you want to listen to a great improvised version of You are my Sunshine on the guitar then ff to 7 minutes. If you don't know these two then to clarify: Joe K. Walsh is a very good mandolin player/teacher and Scott Nygaard is the same on the guitar. It's not really instrument specific. They go through about 6 different ways to improvise, from changing one note, to improvising over the rhythm of the piece, to composing a solo beforehand. One of the things i really liked was Scott Nygaard's comments on the CAGED method. In my experience a lot of people's explanation stops there and it leaves you in a sort of cul-de-sac, he puts it in context and takes things a lot further. You don't need to read music. It was one of those things that I thought I'd listen to and was pleasantly surprised all the way through. I learnt a lot so thought I'd share. pegheadnation.com/news-reviews/events/watch-joe-k-walsh-scott-nygaard-soloing-improving-workshop/
