Hi,
Has anyone experience on the latest incarnation of AER Compact 60, the 60/3? Or better yet, has anyone (non-dealer...) compared these?
According to product info on the web, it has, compared to 60/2
- Smaller and lighter cabinet, with a 15% reduced weight of just 6.5 kg (14.3 lbs) at the same performance
-Voicing-modification: A slight adjustment in the overtones results in an improved adaption to the needs of the up to date percussive playing styles
- Modified gigbag: Smaller dimensions, professional look, super-quality manufacture with piping instead of rimming, tough on the road I had a Compact 60/2 in homedemo, but I chose Schertler David instead (tested also Roland AC60, some Marshall, some Hartke etc). In my test, the 60/2 was maybe a bit too revealing and there was something in the treble I didn't like, while the David was warmer-sounding, more bassy and more forgiving, and its "warm"-switch improves the sound with a piezo a lot --- and I found a second-hand David... I would, however, prefer an amp that is easier to carry, and the new AER looks optimal in that sense. But what do they mean with "the needs of percussive playing"? If that means more neutral upper-mids and trebles, that might be good.

Sorry to be of no help whatsoever, Matt! I don't amplify my own guitar so I don't know!. Keith ( ocarolan) does have an AER Compact (I think), but I'm not so sure it's a new one! They sure seem like fantastic (if expensive) pieces of equipment though.

You're not wrong Martin - I have an AER - an Alpha which must be 10 years or so old now. pricey, yes, but nicey, and it doesn't owe me anything now! For many situations I prefer to use my small PA though... Matt, I haven't tried, or know anyone who has tried the new Compact 60/3 - the stuff you quote the makers as saying about the new model sounds pretty much like advertising-speak to me, but you never know. Whether tany difference in sound is perceivable in real life situations is a completely different matter! Keith

Hey,
I have an AER Compact 60 and can say it's the best acoustic amp I've used. Versatile and very, very portable (Imp consideration!). Dunno what the new model is like but if it's an improvement on the current model, it'll be a belter.
On the downside, as Martin said, they're expensive but it's a truism that 'you get what you pay for...'
Also have a Marshall AS50R which I'm planning to sell if anyone's interested...? (Pretty good amp too.)
Alasdair.

I also have a compact 60 and I am amazed by the sound it produces. One of the things I was most impressed with (despite the sound) is how it spreads the sound. For such a small portable speaker it does a fantastic job with filling out a room. I'm also a huge fan of the "colour" button which changes the tone of your sound and i think it has a very nice built in reverb too.
Best amp I have ever bought.
James

Thanks for the replys!
Seems that nobody around here has experience on Compact 60/3 then... the only reviews I found online were by a US seller.
I home-demoed a Compact 60/2 and played one partygig through one as well and have many heard good players playing thru an AER. Based on that, I agree that the Compact 60/2 is a fine little amp with excellent portability, but it lacks certain authority and warmth and is a bit too "monitorlike" at least at lower volumes when compared to Schertler David (that lacks portability...). Having said that, I just sold my Schertler to a friend --- so when I bump into an AER Compact 60/3, I'll give it a test ride, and if the upper mids / trebles are more relaxed, it may well be a deal...
