A soundport “bung” is made from Oregon Myrtle and will have an Bog Oak bridge pin “handle” to enable the guitar to be played with the soundport open or closed. The neck and soundport “bung” are sprayed too:

The position for the bridge is scribed and the lacquer carefully removed: The bridge is then glued on using hot hide glue:

The label is signed and glued in: Setting up the instrument involves fitting the tuners and Bog Oak nut to the neck, bolting on the neck; fitting the Ebony bridge pins, Bog Oak saddle and strings and then cutting the initial nut slots; bringing the strings to pitch, capoing at the first fret and adjusting the truss rod to give the correct neck relief; adjusting the saddle height for desired action at the 12th fret and finally cutting the nut slots to give desired clearance at the nut:

It is looking really fine Dave.. Forgive me if you have already answered this question [many] times already but could you say why you prefer not to use a zero fret?

Here's "Bogha Fada" snug in it's case: I have done a recording for Rob of "Mammy O'Mine" (Pinkard/Tracey) in standard tuning which is the tune I recorded first on Steve Tilston's guitar: "Mammy O'Mine"This model has a firm tradition of being completed in full lockdown mode so it may be a while until Rob has it in his possession - we'll have to see how it all pans out.

Ah, Sky in my Pie - excellent and great to hear Mammy - lovely version, Dave. Did you need a lie down after playing in standard tuning?
Guitar looks and sounds lovely and it's been fun, as always to follow the build - thanks for that!

Many thanks Dave, I was listening to 'Mammy' again at lunchtime, lovely. Emma has given her the big thumbs up too so all is well. Look forward to meeting in person when we can.
