A few months ago now I decided to take the plunge and order myself some sets of Newton strings for my C tuned baritone Tavy. Finally got them today- can't say I remember how long it has taken, because I had forgotten about them, but it must have been about 3 months. I remember Malcom saying at the time they would cost 9.99 a set, so I ordered 10 sets. Flabergasted to see the bill today- £155 Boy, I hope these last longer than I suspect they will, and I'm really looking forward to trying them, but....is this a reflection on the global string market that string prices seem to be going up, quite considerably? The gauges are: 59 45 34 23 16 14 Very similar to my Wyre sets, but I've gone up a gauge on the 2nd string, and down a little on the 3rd. I'll report back when I've had time to try them (and had a long stiff drink or two to get over the shock!) Robbie p.s Leon, I don't remember the sets you custom ordered to be this much?

You can build a custom set at Eagle Music for a lot less than 9.99. Though not the exact gauges you mention, maybe they had to be custom made?

Oof. That's a bitter pill to swallow there Rob.
Eagle have put up their Newtone Prices over the last 6 months too (eg 20%-25% for standard 6&12 string sets) but I imagine their starting prices were lower than the ordering custom from Newtone. Your price increase was 30%, which is not too much more than the Eagle Prices, but still pretty horrible.
It seems StringsDirect prices are still roughly the same for now (the 12 sets have gone a pound, in contrast to the Eagle where it's £2.50) where the 6 string sets are still £6.
£13 for a set of strings seems a lot though. I'm sure they will be worth it... (even if they aren't keep telling yourself they are....)
