Enjoyed that Ged. I wonder what you have to do to become a "Master Luthier" - is that a step on the way to becoming a "Doctor of Luthiery"? Open University course perhaps?

It always irritates me when people refer to wood as a 'living, breathing' thing. It isn't. When the tree's been cut down (and up) it's dead and it stays dead. It doesn't breathe either. It expands and contracts a bit with changes in relative humidity, but that's all. It's like the people who sell wax furniture polish saying it 'feeds and nourishes' the wood. Total bollix. Most furniture has some sort of finish to stop things like wax soaking into it. All the polish can do is perhaps make it a bit shinier. Sorry, rant over. I feel better now.
