I'd like to learn to play the transverse wooden flute but I have no idea where to start or what instrument to buy as a beginner.
Does anyone have any knowledge or experience that they can share with me?
Thanks
NewDave

My main instrument is: probably needing new strings

I think Akquarius is the chap you need to be talking with, @lakewoodlad. I seem to recall that, amongst his guitars and low whistles, a wooden flute has made an appearance (but I could be wrong)

I know an excellent player of wooden flute who does online lessons for all levels. She may also be able to advise on a good entry-level instrument. Let me know if you'd like her details.

i had to look that up — fascinating. Every now and then I try and master the tin whistle but find myself giving up very quickly!

I got this one to cover the time until my Gabriel flute arrived. I'm quite sure that this here is the one I'm talking about. linkAllthough it is a one-piece flute made entirely from polymer, sound and playability are remarkably good. In case you are not familiar with this type of flute: the finger technique is comparable to a low D whistle, but without the Piper's Grip. Everything else is not

Thanks Akquarius but you have misunderstood me. The instrument you have linked to is more like a whistle or a recorder. I'm looking for one played sideways, like the lady in this link (the flute playing starts at 1:50).
