I started out my journey to become a master artisan instrument builder in 1976. My story is available through several documentaries archived on the internet. For purposes of information this short biography may help: Graduated 1977 B.Ed.Hons in English and CDT. My theses and dissertations covered topics from Mesopotamian metal craft to the evolution of the classical guitar 1993 began building guitars full time with Tony Revell 1995 contracted to build ukulele for the Hawaiian market under the brand name Island Koa Ukulele 2001 abandoned building guitars and other fretted instruments to concentrate on ukulele building 2015 diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease 2016 awarded WCMT Fellowship to study the teaching of ukulele building on the west coast of USA and Pacific Islands of Hawaii 2019 started work on The Revelator design 2021 concluded R&D of The Revelator design concept with a market tested and ready model - The Nautilus Revelator Tenor Ukulele So I am going to document for you the build of one of these which is the 'bling' model that is the iteration of the Revelator design that came first. So it all starts here in the wood shop: Resawing with my craftsman Stuart
Next week I'll show you the main machine processes and my theory about bracing which I have learned to articulate by watching and listening to Andy Powers:

Do moderators want to move this to 'other instruments' section? Just see you have one...

Do moderators want to move this to 'other instruments' section? Just see you have one... Pete, as you'll be chronicling a build, I'll leave it in the Guitar Builds section - I know it's a uke, but we've had all sorts of instruments built in this section - it won't be the first uke in this section and it will will get the best attention from other builders here and from mere mortals who just love a bit of build-porn. Looking forward to following! Keith

OK. Don't want to upset moderators. Just recused myself from a forum because I couldn't seem to say a thing without being challenged. To validate a comment there I published my bona fides and got accused of blowing my own trumpet! All I am doing is fulfilling the lifetime remit for which my WCMT Fellowship was awarded. Thank you for being so understanding and welcoming.

Sorry not much to report. Rebuilding the workshop and teaching a course this week. Will get onto this project in a few weeks - I have 6 instruments to string up and get out of the door! In the mean time: My clever student put a mouse inlay on the headstock with the 'shed' wheat ears forming position markers.
