I tried Santa Cruz parabolic low tension strings on a Brook Taw but to me they didn't feel particularly different to conventional 12-53s, they were surprisingly loud though. I've still got a spare set left so may try them again on something else. Straight Up Strings are in the same bracket as Santa Cruz and Newtone, I have been buying the Straight Up direct from their website in 6 packs straightupstrings.com/ and they have passed customs without duty, works out at less than £9.00 a sets which is 50% less than the Santa Cruz Roger Siminoff was involved in the design of the Santa Cruz and decided to go on his own. Worth trying, very little difference between the SC and the Straight Up. I like the Newtone but occasionally you get the odd dud string J

I like the Newtone but occasionally you get the odd dud string .................... J Sorry to hear of your experiences John. I can only comment on my ownexperience, but I have been using Newtone Masterclass strings for a while, maybe as much as 20 years or so. With "some" guitars in regular use (at least unti, very recently!) needing strings I must have got through a considerable number of sets. In all that time I have had one duff string; an A it was - dead sounding from the beginning. This was some years ago, and Malcolm was still the guvnor then. An email brought an instant apology, and my request for a replacement string was met with the surprise arrival of two sets of new strings a couple of days later. No idea what that side of the customer service is like now, but I've not had to make use of it since the occasion described. Keith

Yesterday I put some D'addario EJ16's (which I used to always use) on my Brook Lyn in place of 10 month old Elixirs. Sound nice but the string noise after using coated strings is just Ok for cowboy chords but slide up and down and - squeak squeak. Could be my finger tips too callused?
