Gary, I did try one of the Stew Mac jigs as a possible replacement for my Blues Creek/Williams type jig which I had used for a number of years. Personally I couldn't get on with a jig where the guitar was moved rather than the laminate trimmer. I only used it on one guitar and even on that one I had to re-rout the channels with the old jig to get a satisfactory channel. I eventually replaced it with a custom made jig built by a Guy named Gary Hallam, which has been superb, I think he only ever made ten. Dave White has the same type. The laminate trimmer is mounted on a turntable in the head and uses the trimmer guide bearing. Of course it could well have been operator error! Colin

Thanks colins, that's quite a set-up! I'm after something with a smaller base for my archtop mandolins. Cheers Gary

Gary garynava - I made one based on two draw slides:
Uses ball raced cutters either for trimming or with different bearings to make a rebate...

Thanks francis. To be honest, I did have a go at making one of these using drawer runners, but for whatever reason, I’m not that happy with it. Having looked a bit more at Elmer’s website and realising that they do free world-wide shipping, I decided to take the plunge today and buy one. Seemed good value- I’ll tell you all how it worked out when it arrives. Cheers Gary

So, here’s the update! It cost me £130 which included shipping from China and I guess it took about a week to get here. All the components looked spot-on. Most of the parts are the sort of components that are sold for making CNC machines. No problems with assembly, although I did use some different fixings for the body cradle but that was my choice. Used it for the first time on an instrument yesterday and it was brilliant! Incredibly pleased and would recommend. Some photos below- the plywood parts aren't included. Cheers Gary
