Following a You Tube discussion by michaelwatts, I decided to try to treat myself to this book, which is published by Orpharion Press from which it can be obtained by mail order. It is one of the most expensive I have ever bought but more than worth every single penny. In a world of electronic devices is is easy to forget the joy of a hardback book. This one is a work of true craftsmanship with thick, ragged-edged paper, wonderful illustrations and novel fonts. The feel, scent and appearance are a delight for all the senses. I had to exercise a rare degree of discipline not to rush the experience. The book traces the evolution of American guitar making in the incisive context of social, economic and musical developments. It draws upon roadtrips across America and extensive interviews with key makers. It also covers the author’s personal journey in commissioning a custom Dave King guitar, which took some 10 years in it’s perfection. I have rarely enjoyed a book more. It is informative, entertaining and thought-provoking. The author is open and honest, and has a most engaging style. There is no doubt that this book is a true labour of love and the author’s life-long passion for guitars (he, like many of us, is a victim of acute GAS) and music is evident on every page. This is a work of considerable scholarship, insight and artistry that I feel privileged to have read. I cannot recommend it highly enough. The book is a limited edition and there are very few left. So if you want one, act now. Brian

That looks great, I may have to order one. I collect fine and limited editions of Austin Osman Spare art books, some of which cost more than this one, and are now worth much more. There is indeed a lot to be said for the fine art of book binding. Nothing like sitting during a winter's evening, with a pipe and whisky, by candlelight, reading a great book.
