I'll keep this short for the time being cos I've now got a ton of work to do having been playing this thing for an hour since it arrived in today's post.
This BM07 is a great little mandolin.
It's biggest USP is that one retailer is selling them on Amazon at well below their RRP: at the bargain price of a mere 79 quid.
I was after a cheap mandolin and tried out a whole bunch, ranging from the absolute cheapest to a couple of luthier-mades at £2000. This one, the second-cheapest in the shop, had a decent amount of volume and, more importantly for me, was extremely playable. It has a very low action and hence is immediately a lot more fun to play.
Tonewise, there were others in the shop that arguably had a nicer sustain and a woodier sound. But this was one of my favourites of the bunch.
Blue Moon also sell the BM-06 for the same price, which I also tried out. It's crap. No volume, no tone whatsoever. Quite odd really, given that the 07 is the same price and so much better.
I will try to post a few sound samples later. But if you've ever been tempted to dip a toe into mandolin playing I can't recommend this one more highly. I feel very guilty now for being snide to the shop I tried it out in, sneaking off to Amazon to get it for £35 cheaper...
