Many of us in the North West, and probably further afield too, will have met, or heard of, Pete. He ran my local folk club ‘Pete Ryder And Friends’ for donkeys years.
A stalwart of the folk scene since the ‘70s he was best known for “Nat Shapiro’s Time”
His wife, Sara, emailed yesterday to tell those on the mailing list that he had suffered a serious fall and was in hospital - the critical care unit. She closed with the ominous words “He is not expected to regain consciousness”
I heard today that he has died, without regaining consciousness.
He was a good bloke, great player, smooth singer and general bon vivant.
He will be very much missed.

Very sad news indeed Leo. I've seen him play many times at the Cross Keys and have the CD above bought from him personally many years ago. It's an excellent album and I'm listening to it now whilst I write this......
He was a very relaxed, laid back bluesy performer and often played old battered Gibson J45/50's that always sounded wonderful.
Great shame.......
