This has been under the bed for a few months now. More info to come about it and where it came from. This could be a journey into the dark side Phil

That's interesting as I recently took a journey to the dark side which resulted in a severe case of buyer's remorse, a situation I could see no way out of. It's a long story but it has a happy ending, so if I get time over the weekend, I will share it here. Lovely looking Les Paul though.

I’ve been back on the dark side for a while love electrics with cricket bat necks, as I play all guitars fingerstyle. I’ve still after 30 plus years playing guitar have never tried a Les Paul, my main electric is a ES335.

Ok it's time to come clean. This isn't a Gibson. I think it's what is commonly known as a 'Chibson' or possibly made in Korea and it doesn't take much to realise this looking at it 'in the flesh'. I suspect it wasn't intended to pass off as a proper fake but I guess someone could be fooled by it. Where did I get it? Well at the local tip there is an area where you can put things for others to take if they fancy it. Yes, you know what's coming My son was there and saw the guitar, quickly grabbed it and put it in the car. The first thing is that some of these have wrong truss rod covers. This one has a correct truss rod cover but on inspection you can see the original screw holes for a wrong shape truss rod cover. Also the screw hole near the nut has no wood underneath to screw into hence no screw. It also has no serial number or made in USA stamped on the back of the headstock which you'd think a proper fake would have. I can't remove the covers to access the pots and pickup selector switch due to a Philips head screw in each being knackered but I removed the pickups and you can see the body is made of a multi laminate construction but a I'm not sure if the maple top is a solid cap or also laminate. I suspect the latter but it does look really good to me. The guitar is very heavy and weighs 8lb approximately. I can't tell what the neck construction is since all the back is painted but from what can be seen of the neck join in the pickup cavity it looks like solid wood. One of the pickups has 'SAM SUNG' stamped on it and from what I can find on the internet they may be the same as some Epiphone far east guitars have. I don't know if it works because I have no amp/lead. The frets show very little wear and the hardware looks. The tuners seem to work smoothly but I'm not sure if they keep in tune yet. It has a truss rod but don't know if it works. The neck looks straight and isn't twisted. I think the next stage is to take it to my local guitar tech for an appraisal and if it's working and playable and then I'll take it from there. Phil

Oh, I think the next step is to find somewhere to plug it in and turn it up to 11!
