I'm looking to get my busking setup as compact as possible. I've been using a K&M telescoping mic stand, it packs down quite small but isn't as sturdy as I'd like. I've just seen something called a RatStand and was wondering if anyone had used one and if so, what they thought of it? Stability in an unpredictable environment is my main concern. I'd be interested to know the measurements of it all when it's folded flat, as I haven't yet found that info anywhere. RatStandIf any of you have another alternative I'd be very interested in that as well.

It looks like you'd be able to stand with one foot on the base to keep some level of stability, Wild Violet

It does look good, but I wonder if the folded size would be awkward to carry around. If it could slip in the front pocket of my gig bag that would be great, but I suspect it's too big for that.

Thank you, surfguy13! I had a similar stand back in the 1980s and loved it, so it might be worth giving it a try! I could always use it for gigging if it turns out to be too heavy to haul around on public transport.

No, the Gravity stand is about as far as you can get from something that would be easy to haul around on public transport!!! The base is stupidly heavy but as a result it's incredibly stable. Good luck with your search.........

If I was busking now I’d really be considering a headset mic. They used to be hugely expensive but there are so many reasonable options for both mics and wireless connections.

I have a headset mic that I'd completely forgotten about. I never used it as I quickly found I couldn't play the harmonica with it on - I need to be able to back away from the mic quite a bit when necessary. I suspect leaving the harmonicas behind and having a lighter/smaller load could be the answer!
