Every year I expect to get the call from Kirsty Young to be on Desert Island discs, it seems that every other man and his dog gets the call no matter how obscure they seem to be. The call will come one day, and I'm determined to be ready. My 8 discs evolve each year, but always seem to be from the same artists, but some years I pick different songs. Here is my selection for the 2024 programme, they are not in any particular order. Now call me Kirsty! 1. The best song of the 1960's, it could have been about an old tramp that lived in the coal yard near our house. 2 & 3 The next two are my favourite songs from the two most influential LPs of my 'youth', 'Rosemary Lane' and 'Martin Carthy'. Both great examples of how to accompany a song. 4. By a country mile the best player I ever saw. Late one night I sat about six feet away from him when he played this, I've no idea how he did it. From his North African period. 5. Combining the magical voice of Jacqui McShee, and the great bass of Danny Thompson, my favourite Pentangle song. 6. Always been a great fan of RT, this is currently my favourite of his pieces. 7. Now you wouldn't expect my 8 discs not to include some Sandy Denny would you. I could have chosen any one of a couple of dozen of her tracks, 'John the Gun' for instance but I suppose it has to be this one. 8. Well just the last one. I remember when Lieg And Lief came out, the reaction from the folk establishment was 'Well that changes everything', this was the track that summed up the revolution. Sandy, Richard and Swarbs in their majesty. The one record I'd save from the waves is Tam Lin. My Book would be The collected AA Milne Winnie the Pooh. You've got to love the characters. Luxury: My Triumph TR4a, both beautiful and something for me to tinker with. Colin

I'd welcome any sort of call from Kirsty Young, especially if it weren't to do with DID. Love listening to her voice. Great post colins with some wonderful music. I'd really struggle to get any list of DIDs down to 8, but Mrs Lucas would certainly be in there somewhere and probably with WKWTTG - I'm having that as play in at my funeral. Keith

The mere mention of a Bert, John, or Jacqui and you have my attention.
Great list of music there, Pentangle being my favourites.
