Oh dear that is an exact copy of the script . That will cause problems down the line as scam ebayers will buy some and sell them off as the real deal and unless you really know what to look for I feel folk are going to get ripped off . Incidendely how easy is it to swap necks or headstocks ;-)

But surely if you play a chord on it you'll know if it's the real thing

There have already been a few on eBay. The specs are wrong- like a D28 with mahogany back and sides but if you don't know a lot about Martins you could be easily fooled.

5th string wound upside down on the tuner capstan....... Well spotted that man! A genuine Martin always has the strings wound perfectly

But surely if you play a chord on it you'll know if it's the real thing The problem is though that fair enough as soon as you played it or had a really close inspection of it you'd know there's something not right , but will you get your cash back ? Also someone who has not long started playing may think wow what a deal and buy one and not be any the wiser but think well its OK but further down the line I'll never buy another Martin . Lynne I had a search last night and there's loads available with no mention of fakes unless its on a forum like this .

I'd pay for a decal that fooled people at first but actually said GIBBON of FUMBLE. Maybe FINGER.

I reckon the majority of acoustic guitars produced, are Martin Ripoffs. Like most solid electric guitars, are Fender ripoffs.

A few years ago I came across a Martin "Eric Clapton" acoustic. It was for sale at what seemed a low price. The vendor advised that the guitar had been badly damaged and repaired. The owner could not afford the repair bill so the guitar was being sold with an honest description to recover the luthiers outlay in time and materials. It had been so badly damaged that it had a complete new top and bracing, and major repairs to the sides. The back and neck were in good order. The "Eric Clapton" label was intact. As the most important parts of the guitar are the top and the bracing with regards the sound, is this still a Martin? given it has a British top and bracing? Although the vendor was totally honest regarding the repairs I often wonder where it went, and how honest the subsequent owner(s) would be when describing it in subsequent sales. Let the buyer beware?
