After several weeks of "researching" guitars under £500, I finally ordered another Vintage (JHS) instrument from GAK in Brighton. It's a V880AQ from the Vintage heritage or historic series, I forget which. Parlour size, neck joint at the 12th fret, spruce top, mahogany laminate body. It just hit the spot if you know what I mean and good value at 33% off list. I like the dark understated finish. It will arrive tomorrow.
Interestingly the economical Vintage statesboro I bought for seventy quid in November is sounding better, it's was good ( For seventy quid) to start with, it sounds louder now and more receptive to my efforts. Is this the instrument "running in" for want of a better or am I, as a novice guitarist getting more confident and less timid with my efforts.
Guitar Guru Ged introduced me to open G tuning, how to play 12 bar blues with the neck slide thingy, woo what fun. I'm pretty average at the moment, but I've found I love being able to make slidey blues music....it can only get better with practice.

Congrats on your new guitar and continuing progress. Slidey blues is great. It's an area of focus / learning for me, too. There's a whole thread on it here: acousticsoundboard.co.uk/thread/380Derek

My new instrument arrived this morning, I think it looks good and I reckon it sounds good to. Well , it will do eventually. I can't quite put my finger on why it sounds better than the statesboro', brighter, clearer, sharper, something like that, the solid top probably vibrates more than the ply top. I like the small body, personally I'm sure how I'd get on with a dreadnaught.
On and thanks for the tip about the slide thread....

Is this the beastie? It has a cool retro style.
