Re: this thread from November 2022. I passed by Coda Music in Stevenage today, and this Brook Abbey is still there. I picked it up, but put it back pretty quickly; to me, it was pretty soulless and thin. Even though it is a very small bodied guitar, I expected more. Your mileage may vary. That was the only Brook in the shop, which was sad as I had wanted to get a better feel for the brand. The shop assistant (that description sounds so last century, but I don't know what else to call him... except his name, which is Kelvin) said that they are having trouble getting hold of Brook guitars, as the guys have cut right down on the amount of time they are putting into building, working fewer days and fewer hours. Coda have a "big" order in on Brook at the moment, he said. This is hearsay, take from it what you will. I had not been to Coda before, but the upstairs room was well populated with new Martin, Taylor, Gibson, Atkin, Collings, Lowden and Bourgeois. They had about 25 second user instruments, and Kelvin said this part of their business was growing as they take more trade-ins. My eye was drawn to the range of Martin Custom Shop Limited Edition All-Mahogany guitars ( like this one), but they have very chunky necks "which you will love or hate", and I hate - but they sounded good. In looking at parlour-type guitars, this Collings was declared the ultimate, but I can't justify that price point for that sort of guitar. Peter

I've not visited the shop but look at the website a lot. In fact I swapped emails with them on Saturday about the Collings OM1 short scale but the part exchange prices they offered me against it for 2 of my guitars was really low so I won't be pursuing it. It sounds like the guys at Brook are winding it down to me heading for retirement. Simon told me that his son Jack who works there wasn't interested in taking it over so sounds like it will eventually just close unless someone else wants to buy the business I suppose. Phil

Some lovely guitars on that site. All a bit pricey, though. But tempting, maybe one day.

Shame if Brook disappear, but I suppose it's maybe best they don't continue with people just running it purely as a business. A Brook Clyst was one that got away due to a very wrong choice of mine. That WAS a small guitar with great playability and a good sound too. Mark

Phil I doubt the business it worth anything - the main and most important asset is what is in Si and Andy's heads, hearts and hands. When they leave, there is almost nothing left. Both are of pension age. Peter

Interestingly I saw on Reverb this morning that Coda has had their latest Brook build in, a Lamorna. The interesting thing is the price. This one is now £3000. I wonder if Brook has now put up its prices? In any case form what has been mentioned here it seems that they will become a rarer site and a more expensive proposition. [edit: a quick look on the Brook website shows that their base price has indeed risen to £2950] Lovely looking instrument (can't help feeling the Lamorna I am borrowing would look soooo much better without the great chunk of black plactic on the spruce top) www.coda-music.com/acoustic-guitars/brook-lamorna-ir-ss-1.html

I'm sure they deserve a price increase. To be fair, I can't see how anyone can make a high quality guitar for less than £3,000 and still hope to make a living.

As they don’t seem to have increased since I bought mine in 2021 it’s not unreasonable for them to go up now
