I thought this was brilliant, and if it wasn't past my skill level I'd buy the music and have a go at learning it myself !

PS Half an hour later and I can't get this out of my head! Also, Riverman, it reminds me of some of your songs, not just the picking but the words/singing/phrasing/delivery. I think you'd do this one justice too, Richard ... Keith

Pat is one of my favourite players. I've occasionally dedicated several weeks to learning just a few bars of his music, before realising how long a whole piece would take me. He's well worth delving into.

But, as Pat himself sings, “it ain’t easy for a boy from way up north…”

I attended a week-long workshop, twice, where Pat was one of the teachers. He's a monster player but quietly monster, as others have pointed out. He also happens to be one the funniest people I have ever met, with that kind of droll, midwestern, deadpan sense of humor. You can hear this in his songs. The first workshop way back in the day--he was sick as a dog with a terrible, racing cold, but he managed to make it through without missing a session and delivered a great solo performance at the end. A true pro and one of the great pickers I have ever heard.
