It is what caught my attention, I wasn't seriously looking but having seen it, and then following some research I felt compelled to pull the trigger. Always been a fan of Ovation and this will go well with my 1978 Balladeer.

Ok, now the Ovation has been re strung, cleaned and had a quick set up, here are my first impressions. I have been comparing it to my 1978 Balladeer which I've had a while now, and love.
It's solidly built, brilliant finish and was clearly a high end guitar in 1999. Action is nice and low, intonation spot on and it stays in tune despite all of my efforts.
The neck is thicker than my 78 but is comfortable and is still a 'fast' neck though not as fast as the slimmer 78 neck.
Acoustically, the 99 has a rich deep bass sound and like the 78 sparkly highs, especially when played with a pick. It is not as rounded or rich as the Martin D 10 but I wouldn't call it inferior. Just a little different.
So far, I love it, being a long term Strat player Ovations do sit comfortably in my hands so I am biased to say the least. Plugged in, they are a dream.
I'll give it a few months and then update with my thoughts then as I'm still in the honeymoon period
