I can’t help myself. Just when I think I’ve got enough I see something else with 6 strings and want (need) one. So it was a few months back when I traded a guitar in Costa at Manchester airport. Lesson is don’t as you end up with a lemon. But as a result I found out about Oliver Marchant who makes Marchwood guitars - the only good thing about that trade. None of you have bought that guitar/lemon so don’t worry! I had a chat with him on the phone. Then visited him whilst ‘on a conference’ in London. Picked some wood, designed a rosette with his help - he is good at designing, discussed playing styles etc and waited. He kept me informed throughout. I went with Bog oak back and sides with lost tunnel redwood top. And she arrived a couple of weeks back. And I am impressed. Build quality is superb. I cannot find any fault and I am picky but generally accepting. This thing is mint (apart from the tiny tiny ding I put in the back within 10 mins!). It’s up there with my Astrand in terms of build. Look at the photos below of the meticulous bracing carving detail. OMcutaway 12 fret. I wanted something different as I already have 5 OMs. Sound is awesome too. Easy to play. The redwood is mellow which I think is needed for bog oak. It’s a bit glassy if not restrained by a mellow top. And this is after 2 weeks. She’ll only improve. All in all a great experience. This was build number 22. And he’s going to get better and more expensive I’m sure. www.dropbox.com/scl/fo/zn8n4qj0aunhqy48nxzaa/AGyVwAaFPXK93hA2YjF6gCg?rlkey=w5culdfnhnthocth2qix1n2hf&dl=0

Wonderful news. I can fully endorse Oliver's instruments, having bought Marchwood number 11. If you go here www.marchwoodguitars.com/gallery-1 and scroll down to "2020 OMc European Spruce and Mahogany OMc with a photogram rosette and back panel, walnut binding", that's the baby. In fact I was playing it yesterday - I had been thinking of selling it, but it sounded so good, I decided to keep it. Oliver is a super young man, nearer the beginning of his luthier journey than the end, but making terrific instruments. He is just one of a breed of young UK guitar makers who need our support. Peter

That looks amazing. Great photos of exquisite workmanship. If it sounds half as good… JPEG 8 made me want a toblerone though. Enjoy your new arrival, Mike.

So I’m not alone in my dislike of pointy cutaways! The guitar just oozes style and class no superfluous bling just elegance

Exactly what I thought. It sets off the look of the woods beautifully.
