I've just gone and dipped my toe into the electric world and bought a Baja Telecaster. I was hopeful that I could get away with playing it through a JBL eon one compact and an inexpensive American sound pedal. Sounds ok but could do a lot better, I think a dedicated electric guitar amp is probably in order. For now at least I'll be playing mostly clean, just electric versions of what I already play. Maybe adding a few Springsteen classics to that list.
I've done a fair bit of reading around the subject, youtube videos, etc and I think I've narrowed it down to something along these lines ....most inexpensive first (preferably used)....
Roland Blues Cube stage/artist Quilter Aviator Cub us or uk version Something from the Fender Tonemaster series, probably delux/super reverb/princeton.
Weight is important, as in not too heavy. I was initially looking at an old classic Peavey Bandit but they're too big and heavy.
I'd be interested to hear what others are using? Is there anything else I should be looking at further to the above?
I'd think I'd rather go solid state, tube amps are a rabbit hole I'd rather not head down.

What don't you like about the sound?
I've got a similar first part of your setup. Baja into an American sound via a volume pedal and Zoom MS70. Then it goes into my audio interface and out to headphones or monitor speakers.

I used to use (still do occasionally) a Laney VC30, which is an AC30 clone, but a bit smaller. But that is a valve amp...
For gigs where I'm confident the PA is good I simply plug into a Tech 21 Flyrig, which is the best electric guitar "thing" I ever invested in.
That said, for most gigs now I simply plug the Flyrig into an AER compact 60 (my go to acoustic amp) giving me a lightweight but great sounding rig.

I've played around with the settings and found a video for a good clean setting on the pedal but I'm still a bit underwhelmed. Also the reverb through the JBL (there isn't any on the American pedal) just doesn't seem to 'engage' at all. It's non existent. Of course this could all be me and I probably need to spend a bit more time with this set up to see if I can dial anything better in before spending more money

I'll have a look.

You could get an equaliser and reverb for around £50 - I've been happy with the Behringer Boss clones and also the generic ones form Mosky/Amoon/Mooer et al.

Seems like a good all in one solution for going direct to a PA. I see they also have a v2 out with a few more effects, etc.

For a great guitar sound IMO you need a decent amp. The Roland Blues Cube, you mentioned, is a great amp. Even better, are the Fender Tonemaster combos. A lovely, small valve combo, is the Fender Blues Junior. Pedals and gizmos can do a lot these days but for that simple, great sound, from a Tele, a good amp is best, IMO. Good luck.

When I acquired my telecaster about 10 years ago, I bought a Vox AC4 series tube amp. I think this is today's version. I wanted a tube amp, in contrast. It was for home use and my own entertainment, as opposed to gigging. I must admit to not using it much, and I am no expert on electric guitars or the playing of them, so this is by no means a recommendation. But it fit with my thoughts at the time. I get far more use out of my Fishman Loudbox Mini (previous to that was a Marshall acoustic amp) in my home. Peter

There's a Blues Cube on Facebook for sale at a decent price not too far away from me. Been there a bit so they might even take an offer. Also a Tonemaster SR on another forum for an excellent price. I'm going away for a week on Saturday, if either is still available when I return I may take the plunge.

Well actually I do really, added weight and the possibility of having to replace the tubes at some point, especially if buying used. I used to have a loudbox mini charge, great little amp that I should really have kept.

Had most types of amps over the years but my personal favourite was the Fender Blues Junior. Plenty loud at 15 watts, it's a tube amp and very versatile so long and you don't want a heavily distorted sound. Not too heavy either, small amp but with a 12 inch speaker. Takes pedals well, though I never used pedals live or for recording. From what I have read the Tonemaster series are fantastic. You really do have a ton of choice. Best of luck and happy hunting.

I played a Laney LC15 for years. I didn’t bond with a Fender Blues Jnr and for last the 3 years I’ve played through a Tone King Gremlin 5 watt tube amp. Not cheap but excellent especially with a build in power attenuator, meaning I can play and not annoy the wife.

I too have a Tone King, an Imperial 2, also with attenuator. It sounds fabulous but as said, they are not cheap. Previously I had a Fender Princeton, also a very nice sound and cheaper. Many favour the Blues Junior. I have a Telecaster.
