Kris Kristofferson was always one of my favourite songwriters, and a great inspiration to the way I write. RIP feller, and thanks for the songs. A little tribute from me from a few years ago. www.soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=13386277

I was busted flat when I heard the news this morning, and had to put on my last clean dirty shirt. It's a sign of how good a songwriter he was that we have all probably sung one of his songs. Here's me doing one of his finest: soundcloud.com/borborygmus/help-me-make-it-through-thePeter

Very sad news indeed. I believe that in a past thread I said that in my opinion he was the best lyricist of his generation. A Rhodes Scolar at Oxford, where he studied English, he brought a love of the language itself to his songwriting. I believe that 'Sunday Morning Coming Down', shows his art at its best, delb0y has posted his great version above. This performance by Kris and Johnny Cash will always be one of my favourites songs of all time. This concert by the Highwayman super group of 'Outlaw' country performers showcases a lot of Kris' canon of work. “Echoes through the canyons, like the disappearing dreams of yesterday” No tribute to Kris would be complete without this! (plus you get the unique sound of Trigger) RIP. Colin

Here's me doing one of his finest: soundcloud.com/borborygmus/help-me-make-it-through-thePeter Great version, Peter. Kris wrote so many great songs! Aside from Sunday Morning Coming Down and Help Me Make It Through The Night, over the years I've played (of course) Me & Bobby McGee, but also Jody and the Kid, The Pilgrim Chapter 33, Casey's Last Ride, Just The Other Side of Nowhere, and I still do Jesus Was a Capricorn. Had I the talent I'd also have loved to have covered The Silver Tongued Devil & I, For The Good Times, and Loving Her Was Easier Than Anything I'll Ever Do Again. When I was just a lad my dad had a copy of the first Kristofferson album and I thought then, and still do, that it was one of the greatest records I'd ever heard. We are, and have been, blessed with great singer songwriters and Kris Kristofferson is up there in my top five with John Prine, Eric Taylor, Steve Earle, Townes Van Zandt, and Guy Clark (okay, I know that's six, but they all deserve a place in my top five). Derek Derek, I had forgotten Casey's Last Ride , a song I also used to cover, another song with outstanding story telling through the shear poetry of his lyrics. Casey's Last Ride reflects Kris' time living in England, with its London location as referenced by the Underground and pints of bitter. I learned it initially from the John Denver cover (the best song he ever recorded and shows what a good performer he could be). So many artists can thank Kris for the best songs they ever recorded. What sad news. When I was first playing guitar my go-to list of songs was from one of his albums and I still play many of them now. I still have 3 of his vinyl albums although one is not easy to play as I had the needle on and off soo many times to write down the wordsthat it jumps in numeroud places. I remember booking tickets to see him in Nottingham about 30 years ago but the tour was cancelled at the last minute. I particularly liked the well known 'Ribbon', 'Good Times', 'Sunday Morning' Other Side' and 'Sit Down Young Stranger', which I never really undrestood but then I love Neil Young too!
When I played with a friend around a few folk clubs in the 70s we sang a lot of KK songs and even recorded Other Side of Nowheer on an old tape player. Can't find how to post the mp3 I made of it here though.

I knew him best as 'Rubber Duck' from the film 'Convoy'. I was an early adoptee of CB radio in the late 70's when it first became popular here in the UK.
Breaker one nine, the rubber duck is forever 10-7.

Another of the great songs written by Kris that I used to play back when I had fingers! This is again from the Highwaymen, and includes Willie's great phrasing and his unique playing on Trigger.
"Loving her was easier than anything I'll ever do again", what a line!
