Both it looks like Love him or not, his ability is astounding, and I personally love watching him play (not so sure I'd buy his albums though). His guitars sure suffer for his art, it has to be said

Yup, technically brilliant but not my cup of tea and, in this video at least, ruins a perfectly good choon(as far as I'm concerned) And what's with the Elton John homage after 3 mins ?

Very wierd watching that with your avatar next to it Adrian! Brilliant technicians, Tommy Doyle etc, but they practice they're skill every day like a welder or a carpenter or even a doctor! I see them as professionals doing their work, I hope they enjoy it and don't have to fight it all the time but I'm sure they wish for another job at times. I know I do!!

I'm much the same as a couple of previous posters,in that, I don't listen to TE or DD,-their playing skills are so 'stratospheric' it leaves me feeling a bit wanting in my own, what I consider to be,meagre playing skills, simply put,I think, subconsciously.players might try to attain that level of skill, these great players have,-a bit difficult for most of us,-me especially,at 63 years of age......

I like both tommy and Doyle and saw tommy live a while back - but i kinda compare those extra licks or string acrobatics not dis similar to the voice acrobatics by the likes of mariah carey, Christina agularia etc and feel its done a bit too much at times - but i think playing the same stuff all the time especially on tours maybe they just add it in themselves to keep themselves entertained a bit rather than the audience ?? Don't get me wrong its a hell of a talent but same stuff same note night after night would prob have myself adding other stuff to try out too
