Today I fitted a nut raiser to my Gretsch reso. It took a few moments. I've tuned it to FACFAC, which is Dobro G down a full step. It sounds fine. Removing it will take moments. Don't know why I put this off for so long. Perhaps I'll try it on the flat-top too.

Is this just for playing lap style with a steel?

It is. I've been dabbling in Dobro, using a lap steel guitar tuned GBDGBD, playing Fahey & stuff. The Clearwater Pro II lap steel sounds good through an FX box & amp, but the reso is very nice indeed.

I bought a couple of nut raisers from Elderly Instruments. I have a nice cheap 12 fret slope shoulder Crafter Dreadnaught (don't think they make them anymore, really nice guitar especially for the price), and when I want to play lapslide (pretend to be Kelly Joe Phelps), I stick Medium strings on there and the nut raiser. Also bought a shubb dobro capo to use on the guitar. I love the sound of the lapslide on a dreadnaught.
