I used Chrome Frets for fret/fretboard maintenance. Seemed to work well for me, and as a bonus it was a good string cleaner, revitalising many a set of "dead" strings.
For general cleaning I just used a fresh duster, occasionally moistening with Martin Guitar polish for stubborn marks. I also used lengths of hemp clothesline moistened with Martin polish to clean behind banjo brackets, but even so I only had to replace the spray once in a decade. The beasties all looked shiny enough.

I just use a soft cloth too, with plenty of hurr. But this week I have mostly been buying . . . Alaska picks. Never used picks before, but steel strings don't half rip my nails to shreds. I underestimated the size though. Ordered some bigger ones when I noticed the gangrene setting in.

I used to use lemon oil on my fingerboards until the guys at Brook [who were doing a set up for a guitar of mine a few years ago] mentioned that lemon oil can eat your strings... Martin [guitars that is] seems to agree with this... www.martinguitar.com/guitar-care.htmlControversy...!? Interesting. Might be a question of quantity ?

I use these www.eaglemusicshop.com/ProPik-Medium-and-Small.htm ..much neater than AP's and fit very neatly round your finger tip...remember to use them "upside down"..! In brass they sound more mellow on steel strings. Finger picks take some time to master but once there nail probs are a thing of the past ...most folk here are "nailies' though...horses for courses as ever..

Very possibly Bernd...also some lemon oils are probably completely synthetic and contain no citric acid which presumably is the agent that can do the damage...

I've got some Dunlop ones very similar to those, which I bought for the banjo. Might try both types for a while before deciding which to use. The metal ones seem harder to master but they were definitely more comfortable to wear. I though it was old age and decrepitude causing my nails to split, but then realised in was the steel strings. So, for the sake of my classical playing it seems worth the effort of getting used to picks on the steel-string.

When I was up at The lads wi gears singers house on Friday evening playing him my song , I'd decided to capo the guitar at the 5th fret but both the Kyser and the Dunlop struggled to fit cleanly over all the strings without faffing about with it to stop knocking me out of tune . So he gave me (a loan off) a Shubb 12 string capo and it works a treat . Mmm something else to add to the shopping list .

Some months ago I bought a new Martin OM21L from Westside, the UK importer. As I got to the shop they were just giving it a bit of spit & polish, including Lemon oil on the fretboard so maybe they haven't heard what Martin themselves reccommend. I got a nice shiny guitar and it doesn't seem to have done any harm although I've not put any more on since.

Got my pickguard blank. Shaped it and stuck it on this morning and it's made a great improvement, to my mind. It's bit big but it has to cover the white patch where to old one was. I like the shape and colour of this one way more.

This week I'll mainly be buying a Kronbauer SJ with Koa B&S......USPS are late. Fancied one of these from this Canadian luthier ever since I saw a Bubinga model for sale by Trevor @ TAMCO, and just missed out on it.

Go very easy with the lemon oil. No more than once a year.
I use Planet Waves string winder/cutters every time I change string on my guitars, banjos and dulcimers. Saves loads of time and effort.

I'm waiting for the doorbell to ring as we speak-shipped a week past Tues (Fri now). USPS when will I ever learn, you get what you pay for with this 'cheap' service. Tracking is useless. Time of year doesn't help. Patience is a virtue I don't seem to have any more! Bah humbug. Reminds me of the time I received a guitar from MFG 3 days after my telephone conversation with Jon-and I hadn't even sent the payment! This one is also coming from Florida. Ah! the good ol' days....
