I don't know if anybody else is like us and sometimes puts on the same CD [usually a new one ] time after time..? This w/e we are listening to Karan Casey's "The Winds begin to Sing" from 2001...bought it recently after a chance remark from Dave W in the "Mary and the Soldier" thread on the Plucky Duck. A marvellous album..and yes Dave you are right about the version of "The Kings Shilling!

Andrew,
Great choice. Karan has got such a great and versatile singing style. I'll never forget seeing her in Dublin at The Shelter - a little jazz club cellar room next to the more famous Vicar Street when she was promoting "The Winds Begin to Sing" together with Robbie Robertson on guitar and her husband Niall Vallely on concertina. Fabulous.

She really has a fantastic voice. I have a few Solas CD's and the one she recorded with her ex-Solas-companion John Doyle.
I'll have a look at that one Andrew, thanks for posting!

Agree re Karan, esp in a Solas context!
I do that with CDs too Andrew, most recently with Josienne Clarke and Ben Walker's recordings, but I thought I'd post my "Youtube of the Day", that I've just disovered and played half a dowzen times already thisafto - you might like it too -

;D Very cool stuff! Keith, a special thanks for the Willows clip. I'm just sitting in my favourite armchair, the notebook on my knees and a glas of Bowmore Enigma by my side, and that music just fitted perfectly. I guess I have to watch out for more music from The Willows. If you don't mind, I'd like to add another youtube clip. It's from my favorite german celtic band Cara and should fit to the above posted clips and here's a short trailer to their CD/DVD in Full Swing, highly recommended if you don't mind germans speaking english

Wow...a veritable feast of music in this thread ...all of it new to me.. Looking at The Willows web site I see they have their debut album out this month and are doing a UK tour [sadly not coming to the SW] shortly too. I reckon Frank Turner live in a festival setting would be brilliant..will look out for his gigs.. Cara are excellent ...full of energy and very tight. The John Otway vid was brilliant..made me laugh out loud on a grey Monday morning! Thanks for posting everybody!

For the last couple of weeks I have been listening almost exclusively to my new CD, which is actually comprised of much older recordings: Some really amazing music on there

Wow..that is a blast from the past Martin. SW were very much part of the Edinburgh folk scene when I lived there during my student days and early working life....a great band! My only claim to fame is when the duo I played in back then ["Drowsy Moggy" taken from the tune Drowsy Maggie] won the 1973 Edinburgh "Folk group of the Year"competition beating SWiz into second place. ;D I used to be mates with Bob Thomas who was the guitarist in SW in their early days...a nice bloke and a great instrumentalist...we played together in another [shortlived] uni band "Galadriels Synthesis" ...those were the days!
