My lads having problems with his Yam LL16 Baggs M1 pickup through pub PA systems it sounds fine through my AER compact 60 but experiences problems through a typical open mike pa. I tried it last night at an open mike and couldn't loose a crackle the pick up is four years old and he's had it since new. Any thoughts anyone?

If the pickup is an M1 [and not an M1A ie active ] it is a passive PU and will need more ooooomph from the amplification system to get sounds from it. You've probably already compensated for this on your AER ....very often acoustic PU's are active [ usually indicated by the presence of a 9v battery somewhere in the guitar]...probably this is what the pub PA person is used to. Solutions... Get an external preamp to use at open mic sess's....something like this... www.orchid-electronics.co.uk/acoustic.htm Or see if the pub PA acoustic guitar channel can be cranked up a bit to deal with the passive PU.

It's is an active pickup powered by a CR2032 battery
I'm hoping that replacing the cable might be the answer
