Wait, wasn't Dave White looking for a challenging, different instrument or three to put together in his anniversary year?
I mean, how difficult can a vihuela be to knock together?

I've already made a lute Mind you Debbie fancies learning to play a Hurdy Gurdy so that's now on the list. Julian Bream has such a great touch - lovely piece.

Julian Bream has such a great touch - lovely piece. Completely agree. Although, to be serious, the vihuela looks like it would be easier to keep on one's lap. I've only come into brief contact with a real lute once, and holding it seemed to be more challenging than dealing with tied on frets and multiple courses. Sort of like an even more slidey Ovation. Kym, In my albeit limited experience of playing a lute the three trickiest bits are keeping it balanced, keeping it in tune with 1:1 friction pegs and keeping the gut frets in the right place. The rest is just a walk in the park

Love Milan- those scale passages are difficult enough on an ordinary guitar, let alone a vihuela with double courses. I always think this ancient music is rather modern sounding myself, especially this piece by Mudarra. Listen to all those discords in the incredibly funky final section.

Yup, just needs a bit of tippy-tappy-hitty-bashy and a hanky tied from the headstock to bring it right up to date! (NOT!) Great vid Robbie! Keith
