................... When/where did you meet him Phil? Keith 16 years ago at his workshop. I got a custom Orsino for my 40th birthday but was not keen for some reason and never 'bonded' with it............... Phil So, 16 years ago, 1997? The year after he'd moved to Penrith. Probably not the easiest time.... Keith

I got mine as well - no 62 of 200!
I've flicked through it all already and read most of the history part - seems like some troubling times were the main reason for Roger leaving the building to one side for a few years, I'm very glad that he seems happier now and is back building some great guitars!
When I met up with him he seemed quite agreeable - a little short with his words but he was very accommodating and left me to play some guitars and then showed me and my (then 'new') wife around his wood store and work shop. My subsequent emails with him regarding the Alexander I ordered were always answered quickly and politely, even if they did sometimes consist of 'yes, thanks Roger'...

I've met Roger once at the 2008 Cheltenham Acoustic Guitar Show when his stand was opposite mine. Once you got past the gruff exterior he was a friendly, interesting, down to earth and very helpful man. A National Treasure.

Mr Bucknall seems vey well disposed towards you, Keith. Lovely big inclusion in the newsletter Indeed - see my paralle thread in the "Member's" area. We shall have to bow when we see him now! By the way, I have just finished reading Roger's book. It is very open about his life and troubles, and provides some fascinating insights into his approach to instrument making. There is no doubt that he is a one-of-a-kind national treasure. The book very well written and there are some superb photographs. One of the best things I have read in a long time and I shall keep going back to it. If you don't have a copy, get one - you won't regret it. Brian

Mr Bucknall seems vey well disposed towards you, Keith. Lovely big inclusion in the newsletter Thanks Martin. Yes, it was kind of Roger to give me another outing in the newsletter - he asked recently if he might use that video, so naturally I said not bloody likely yes! How ironic it was a C-word tunes video he chose this time! Brian, no need to bow, but cash or cheque quite acceptable. Glad you enjoyed the book - really looking forward to getting my hands on my copy again when Santa returns it! Keith

I picked mine up whilst I was at Fylde guitars last week on the very day they arrived (I also twisted his arm into signing it 'to John') - and I love it. It was the first time I had met Roger in person; I warmed to him and we exchanged stories about working hard and how things don't always going the way they should, which is, of course, evident in the book.
Even if you don't own a Fylde it makes compelling reading and the images are superb.
I just purchased a guitar from him and he was very very helpful and accomodating to me whilst I was a bit indecisive - for which I am grateful.
I feel quite honoured to own his guitars actually.

That was a great day to land up at Roger's place! You realise, I hope John, that you aren't going to get away with saying "I just purchased a guitar from him..." without giving us chapter and verse before too much longer! preferably including pics and recordings! From your F/B messages I'm sure there's a lot to tell that would interest many folk here. keith

I will do Keith, I'll certainly do photos and explain a bit more but recordings will have to wait. It's not that I'm not capable but I haven't yet mastered the art of being happy with what I record - being my own worst critic.
