Went in town today with birthday and Christmas money burning a hole in my pocket. Not sure what to buy, I was tempted by a clarinet going for 55 quid in cash converters. Not knowing anything about the clarinet I was unsure what to do. After some food I decided to have a look in JG Windows next door to Ron's (our local small guitar shop) where they had a Deacon mandolin in the window, for just shy of 60 quid (normally 100) I had a brief demo, the guy in the shop played some McGuinnes Flint on it. Thats it, I was hooked! There was an option on the soundhole choice, egg shaped or f holes. I opted for f holes. The guy tuned it up then a string went boing, snap. Had to go get another. That was weird! Then it was mine! All money now spent but my partner said she'd get the strings for Tilly for me, so into Ron's we went for some D'addario lights, mandolin under my arm! So here she is. Now I need some resources to learn to finger it...  |
