Kind of limiting, not a big fan here.

Quite liked the effect on the first acoustic clip. Only likely to be used once in a blue moon for special effect I suppose. All those revues that talk about guitars having a "piano-like" sound (whatever that is, I'd rather my guitar have a "guitar-like" sound) can now talk about a piano-like action. Clever, even interesting gimmick, but not for me.

Cool, and definitely useful for some, but might be a bit too specialist.

The latest in along line of gadgets developed for guitars. Does anybody remember Gizmo - a sting type device - invented by the members of 10cc in the 80s?

The latest in along line of gadgets developed for guitars. Does anybody remember Gizmo - a sting type device - invented by the members of 10cc in the 80s? Yep. I was a bit of a gadget freak and I already had a trick string bender on my Telecaster that had turned out to be very useful, so when I saw a Gizmo in action on telly I immediately wanted one. As it turned out I found it impossible to find out where they were on sale. I heard that they wore out in no time though, so maybe I was fortunate. Regarding the keys gadget I can see its potential, especially as a sometime keyboard player myself. It would certainly make it easier to pull off fast arpeggios with lots of internal roll variations than using fingers alone. Generally I have no problem with such innovations if they extend the possibilities for musicians. In my defence I try to bear in mind that not so long ago things like dobros and solid body electric guitars were held the new-fangled gadget category.

Good point that. Gizmo I think really couldn't stand up to the speed of keyboard technology. I really liked the look of that new electrical musical instrument that was launched a few years ago — can't remember the name but it kind of had a fret board and electronically programmed scale as well as voices.

Very interesting his TED talk about the increasing disconnect through MIDI between expressive performance and skill and sound output. Worth watching this!

The tune at 1.40 reminds me of duelling banjos...PADDLE FASTER! The latest in along line of gadgets developed for guitars. Does anybody remember Gizmo - a sting type device - invented by the members of 10cc in the 80s? If you can remember the '80s, you probably weren't wearing enough hair gel!
