Err... Fretboards shouldn't be painted, it'll just wear off. Do you have any photos?

George, I think that you would would get a better and more useful response (if that is indeed what you're after) to this and other similar queries you have already made on this Forum if you were willing/able to provide rather more complete and detailed background information. Keith

OK, I'll play ball...this time. Like what the instrument is. Like what the fretboard is made of. Like what the problem with the existing fingerboard is. Like what your expectation of the finished job is. Like what your experience of guitar-related DIY is. As much info as poss just helps people reply to your query in a more helpful way. Keith

I'd assume that any paint would just wear off leaving an even more patchy fretboard. Maybe the existing fretboard could be cleaned - wire wool with some gentle abrasive. Someone else here will be able to advise on what to use to clean it - there're one or two luthiers who would know more than I.
Best of luck.

George, you can buy black fingerboard stain and apply it to your guitar fretboard if you want. Stew-Mac sell it hereHere's a video where the stain is applied using a pen/applicator. Dunno where you'd get it here, but try a Google search
