I keep going back to Rob, because his guitars sound fantastic, and his build quality is also fantastic....unfortunately the build time is fantastically long. He has an excellent reputation with the gypsy jazzers...I'm a huge Django fan, but not alas a gypsy jazz guitarist, BUT I love the tone of those guitars....so I have 2 built by Rob.....I love the volume they produce when digging in with a thick pick....I only really play single notes...so its great. i also have a gorgeous flat top with offset soundhole ( similar to the American McPhersons)... Mine has a floating fretboard extension, so the top can move freely, African Blackwood back sides....and pink ivory binding...it is an awesome guitar. i will post some pics when I get some batteries for my camera.

Sounds like he makes very good instruments. I may seriously pay him a visit sometime when I'm up that way to have a chat, I don't know much about Gypsy jazz guitars but would love to play some. Pictures of everything please

I remember a Guitarist mag many years ago (mid 1990s?) having a very favourable review of a Rob Aylward acoustic guitar - haven't heard of him at all since then...until now! I think we need to know about your other Aylwards as well as this coming one Rajan! Keith I was about to say exactly the same thing, though I'd have said it was 2002 - I seem to remember reading it at around the same time I was looking for a guitar (and bought my Taylor in 2002 of that year).

Still, we're a long time dead… I'm looking forward to the meeting in Halifax with mixed feelings - there will be lots of very lovely guitars there and... Alasdair. There was a time when my guitar looked lovely. Bangs and the odd dink here and there have taken their toll but I really am not happy until something looks a bit worn. Mind you I bet it would look much better if I ever cleaned it ...
