Scotch and Brian - thanks for the likes. Paul - I'll settle for "dark", I like dark sounds. Thanks Paul. Nick - Thanks. The oak was a joy to work with and it doesn't sound too shabby either. If you like gloss mirror finishes you'll need to spend some time pore filling but you'll get there in the end. Shubbs - Thanks, patience is a virtue as they say Keith- Thanks. It will certainly be coming to HB5 so I look forward to hearing it played by proper 12'ers Alasdair - Thanks. A very interesting and perceptive question. Yes I'm pleased that a spare chest of drawers has turned into a lovely looking and sounding musical instrument. It has all of the overtones, complexities and sustain I associate with the "De Faoite sound". As many of you , especially Shubbs, know I'm not a major 12 string fan (unless they are harp guitars) and this is the only sort of 12'er I would contemplate making. The jury is still out for me as a player and I find that it has to be played leaving a lot of space or else things seem to mush up in the "jangliness". I suspect exploring it in Open major and minor tunings may be where I'll go. Also if I can ever get my fingertips of both hands hard enough then ragtime/blues/gospel would be another area I think it would work (I love Stefan Grossman's 12 string playing) plus there's the John Butler "Ocean" territory. For me in my heart of hearts I thing I'm an 8 string man with my guitar bouzouki. I'm looking forward to hearing it played in expert hands and as well as HB5 it will be going to the Ll?n Acoustic Guitar Festival in October where it will be interesting to get Paul Brett's view. After that - if it hasn't imploded - I might consider sending it on a mini Road Trip if there are enough willing 12 string players here on the Forum up for it.

Very nice Dave, right up to the De Faoite standard we have come to expect. Now you just have to seduce the prison Governor's wife so you can get out of jail and enjoy your freedom to play it.
Actually my favourite 12 string player was the incomporable Sandy Denny, but somehow I just don't see you as Sandy, though your 'Banks of the Nile' is pretty good.

Dave,
Where did you get the 12 string tailpiece?, I've never really been able to find them!

Dave
Great that you've finished this, it looks amazing.
Open tunings please, and perhaps a version of Vaseline Machine Gun?

Very nice Dave. I've enjoyed seeing the photos of the build and the sound clip sounds great. Will you build another 12-string?

Phil - thanks.
Steve - Thanks. I'm getting to like this guitar more and more. I think it has found a "spiritual home" (not me) that it will go to after it goes to the Forum Halifax meet in September and the Llyn Acoustic Guitar Festival in October where I'd be interested in Paul Brett's - a 12 string expert - view of it. I might well build myself a replacement and would certainly make one as a commission if asked but I'm pondering if I will add it to my "stock" offerings on the website. I'm certainly very impressed with the tonal and visual properties of "boring old" English Oak.

I can vouch for the great sound of this guitar. Dave brought it round the other day when he visited, it's re-evaluated my view of oak as a tone wood, one I've got to try.
Great guitar Dave.

I did a teeny weeny review of this quite lovely beast here in case anyone missed it (by mistake, as opposed to deliberately)

The "taster in C-C tuning" on this thread gave us a good impression of the qualities of this guitar. The recording "Raptor Windfall" in the Plucky Duck confirms what a wonderful tone machine she is.
A case where the visuals that suggest a great guitar are matched by the sound. As Andy rightly says - it's ultimately about the sound.
Leo's review mentions the easy to play action and that certainly puts it in a very small exclusive band of 12ers.
It's fascinating to see the full progress of a guitar through all the building process to the final music making. What a painstaking skilled operation it all is too - and what a transformation from that original drawn rough plan - there's something of the "visionary" Dave in what you do as a guitar builder I think. A very worthy "Anniversary" instrument, particularly given your stated ambivalence about 12 stringers.
