Although I increasingly use my nails even for strumming (or a sort of J.Taylor pianistic-strum hybrid) I started using two particular thicknesses of the newer 'Max Grip' nylon picks from Dunlop last year. I was buying .73 and 1.14 picks, .88 and 1.0 being a bit bland, as much as this sounds like splitting hairs. I never thought I'd like to go thinner but I've been trying the .60 picks this week and they are lovely. I feel a slight struggle not making evangelical noises about them. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Dunlop-Max-Grip-Standard-Guitar-Picks-0-60mm-1-2-3-4-5-6-10-12-20-24-or-36-/281122006764?pt=UK_Guitar_Accessories&var=&hash=item41742d66ecEven without trying the variation given by the other two rounded tips, you get the full glassy tone playing single line parts on the treble strings, and enough definition from lower strings (better still with the back tips), plus you get the useful brushy textural sound from strumming chords. The job of three different picks in one really, and they really don't seem to have taken off like they should have. I've only had three teas today so I feel I can click Create Thread now without later regret.

Ah, that explains why you've only posted about two inches of text. I feel quite deprived. Why not stop to enjoy a nice cup of real coffee or three, and resume normal service as quickly as possible.
I've got three picks enhancing the mantelpiece. I don't know what type they are, but they are pretty colours.

Damn, if only somebody would invent a suitable pick stand, eh?

Well if my home was slightly more damp I could store them by throwing them at the wall after each session. If I used lighter picks I could probably do that now.
Some turned up this morning from eBay that were slotted into sixteen slots in the cover letter. Genius, but either a bit laborious for the seller or a weird order to put in at the stationers.
If I can't find a pick in the usual places I know there'll always be one in the shower by the plughole, however that comes about***. Yes, you rightly sigh relaxedly - this is what things would be like if you hadn't started that family, ha...

@tpprynn why not have a small pocket surgically created in a discreet area, then you can keep them on your person at all times like a kangaroo. leoroberts I actually tried to make a plectrum stand, the design of which I plagiarised from somewhere or other, but I can't get it to remain standing with the plectra in it, so that stand remains on the mantelpiece purely for ornamental purposes.

The PlectraStand is going from strength to strength - I am writing this from my new luxury penthouse suite in Mayfair, paid for by all the generous donations to get this little business venture off the ground...

I am intrigued by this. Rest assured the PlectraStand will accommodate a wide range of thicknesses. Are you suggesting there is a non-linear relationship between pick width and blandness?

It's not a rationalised thing for me, no, I don't mean to imply that - it just feels like the 1.0 is as if a prototype for the 1.14 and the .88 is a prototype for the .73. The 1.0 and the 1.14 are both, to me, 'thick picks', of limited application for me, but the strengths of the thicker pick are heard better in the one I like. If I'd liked a different set of tunings or maybe only had boutique guitars with spectacular fretting and setup maybe I'd like different picks altogether, but the ones I've gone mad on in this thread I'm chuffed with both because they will prove to simplify buying picks for me (till they're discontinued in six months time, as happened with a tinned curry I used to buy in Tesco) and also show clear signs of evolved design, making them objectively better than many picks, rather than being a nondescript plectrum-shaped blob. I think they're worth drawing attention to, the range and not just the sizes I like.

OK understood - if you didn't rationalise it then neither will I!
Meanwhile I have telexed the PlectraStand design engineers with some suggestions for a range of "compacted hair" plectrums, I'll keep you posted if that idea proves to have any legs.

Grand. A display of those might increase the chances of their owner being sectioned, but...
[Having read the pick stand thread now I'm additionally inquiring about an organic version - caterpillar + embalming fluid. Now there's an idea 'with legs'.]

I know! That's what I meant by 'somewhere or other'. I was so impressed with the stand. A masterpiece of design. It's just that my engineering skills don't do justice to it.

Mr Floorstand's going to be pretty peed off once all the cheap Chinese knock-offs start appearing. Especially the company that just sends you a paperclip and a piece of paper reading: 'Making this into the stand plectrum please'***.
***With the paperclip sometimes being missing
