Just bought the album- going to give it a listen later, but what I've heard of them so far suggests I won't be at all disappointed. Brilliant band!

Yes, they have a unique sound. Probably me but their dynamic and general sound seem to be the same song-over-song, as I recall. Though it is fresh, in a signature sense of the word, it is aged by the end of the album.

I think it's them (their songs). They have a sameness of sound. Notice the knee dips are the same in meter? Production follows the song(s) so it's only mirroring.
Edit to add: I think it's safe to say that any gigging musician tends to settle his set list to mix up the dynamic. No need to beat the carpet with the same meter song over song, key over key, progression over progression. Stale it would be three songs in. I'll play a Travis style song to open because of it's familiar meter and alternating bass thump. Then I'll switch to a rolling style of picking. Then it'll be a mix of styles till I return to "ground" the set again going back into Travis. These girls don't have that and the percussionist isn't giving us the primordial bass thump in the seat of the pants. It's all tinny instruments and tenor voices without the weight of a cross-range dynamic infrastructure.
Or, it could just be me so I give'm their due.

I don't think we are listening to the same album! I've been listing to this album every day and I absolutely adore it- clever writing, interesting arrangements, beautiful harmonies. I think you are unfair on the percussionist- I think her contributions to each song are just spot on. As for dynamics- I think dynamic changes (both in terms of volume and expression, and also textural) are very much in evidence. All in all one of the most interesting albums I've heard in a long time. Its also nice to hear an American band singing without the over exaggerated American drawl ! Robbie

I do like....great vocals/harmonies and a general feel of giving it their all.. I don't like ...the bodies [ ] bobbing up and down together in time ...looks pretty contrived to me.. I'm unsure why ...they are are all female? Is this a feminist sort of band? May be less appealing to some.. ...not me you understand! [Although I wouldn't argue with the drummist ] I've not heard any versions of Battle for Evermore before...a good song ...who else does it?

I've googlied them...a family band...four sisters ....Corrs/Clannad sort of thing so apologies for any comments in my previous post. I like this track too... a similar feel to Corrs/Clannad's style but nothing wrong with that... and a lot right with it !
