Just wondering in the mid priced guitars of 300-500 pounds 400-600 euro range.
There are some manufacturers selling All solid in the this price range I can think of Faith and Freshman of the top my head.
Are these guys using cheap wood to be selling at this price?
Are these solid guitars better than the solid top laminate backs that most manufacturers are selling at this price range.
There are plenty of guitars way above this price range still offering only laminate backs..
Also there some manufacturers saying grade A AA AAA for the spruce top where as some others don't give the grading at all.
Are these cheap all solids better than the solid top laminate back offerings.

Faith use quality woods. The price saving is in the place of manufacture.

The only way to determine better is to play them. A well matched laminate can be nearly as good as solid.

Faith manufacture in China as do most other guitar brands. Like tanglewood , Sigma, Guild GAD, Takamine ect.... Faith out source not sure who too.
Tanglewood own their own factory in China.
Cort build guitars for Sigma...
I have played Faith but only the Naked series they seemed quite growly. like to try their natural or gloss editions.

Faith manufacture in Indonesia.
I would never describe the naked series as growly. The smoothest sound is from the high gloss series with the rosewood. I've had a couple and they're lovely, but my current Naked Venus is my favourite.

That's right actually they are built in Indonesia remember someone telling me that now. For the record though I don't have an issue where guitars are made China, America wherever. Tanglewood guitars say on the label Built in the UK but they are only designed in the UK, I don't mind them being built in China but its just they try to hide the fact. Well I have only played a couple in a music store so you would have a better feel for them than me, I used the word growly as that's what the store owner described the naked series and I kinda agreed but I have only played them for 10 minute stints. I wasn't keen on the finish or look of the nakeds but they are good guitars I nearly bought one before the sigma in a way I sometimes regret not getting then all solid guitar. I was looking at the mercury in particular as I liked the short scale, but though the neck was quite deep front to back, do you find that?

The necks on Faiths always feel really skinny to me - like they're designed for electric players.

You should play a Sigma much skinnier neck. Actually i have owned Lag Tanglewood Epiphone and Sigma and all were less deep than the Faith. The Sigma use exact dimesions as ~Martin too.. Not taking anything away from Faith they seem a good brand, just i thought the neck was a little fatter..
My travel guitar Sigma tm12 has a slightly fatter neck than my 000 guitar, but thats because of the designe of the shorter neck, where the wood starts to come out for the head stock a little early..

I had a OOOM-15s and it was miles chunkier than any Faith I've played, but I haven't played any other Sigma. The above model had soft v and 45mm nut though.

Yes, they sure are. I have played the Martin road series version but I don't recall how the neck felt - just the amazing tone!

Ha, great old topic this. Been discussed to death a million times. My advice - ignore what everyone says, including your own sub-conscious and go by the 'if it sounds good, it is good' method.
Doesn't matter what it's made of, provided it fits the player's ears and hands.
