Hi folks, not strictly acoustic but it is a bit!! I've just picked up this 1965 Hofner 500/1 violin base, it's in a right state but it's all there the neck is off as it needed re setting and I'm going to re instate the sunburst finish.

I'd have thought they were rare Dave but they're showing up alot on ebay at the moment. Probably because of the 50th Beetles thing! They are quite collectable though. I've joined a very helpful Hofner forum so I could research as much as poss before pulling it apart! I had no Idea it was as old as a 65 when I bought it or that it was collectable, I just thought it would be an interesting project. And I don't play bass (guess I'll have to learn now!!

I just started shooting lacquer at it yesterday. Even the tin of lac looks like it came from the 60's clearcoat sealer yesterday And amber (the beginning of the sunburst) today.

This is just a dry run before clear coating it and glueing the neck on. Just to see if I got the sunburst right Keith.
